Tiger Woods forced to drop out of Masters

After only seven holes of golf, Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw from the 2023 Masters tournament on Sunday, and his reason was incredibly painful. He also withdrew in 2022 for a gruesome reason.

Tiger Woods drops out of the 2023 Masters

The legion of fans who are cheering on Tiger Woods and hoping to see him win another major championship had to be disappointed on Sunday when the golfer pulled out of the event in the third round after playing only seven holes.

Woods would have had to play another 29 holes on Sunday to complete the event.

The 15-time major champion was limping heavily and in obvious pain through the early portion of the event on Saturday. After the first seven holes, Tiger was six over and running last place among the 54 players competing.

Since a life-threatening 2021 car crash, Woods has continually dealt with severe leg pain, according to the Bleacher Report.

On Sunday, Woods tweeted a message informing fans of his reason for withdrawing from the Masters.

“I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis,” Woods wrote. “Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!”

While Woods has managed to rehabilitate his injuries and returned to the course, many pundits have opined that he is currently not capable of playing high-level golf for four straight rounds.

In the last four major tournaments that Woods has played since returning from his injury, it’s the first time in his career that he has ever withdrawn from the Masters. However, it’s the second time he’s failed to play one of golf’s biggest events.

Woods barely made the cut for the Masters, nonetheless, he matched the all-time record by getting to the Masters 23 consecutive times.

Even before his car crash, mounting injuries had led Woods to contemplate retirement.

“I don’t know how many more I have in me,” Woods had told reporters at the start of the week.

Tiger Woods forced to drop out of the 2022 PGA championship for this gruesome reason

In May 2022, Woods withdrew from the 2022 PGA championship. On Sunday, during a discussion of Woods’ withdrawal from the Masters, Aussie pro golfer Jason Day, who has been good friends with Tiger for years, revealed the gruesome and painful reason Woods dropped out of that tournament, the New York Post reported.

“I was talking to him at the end of last year, and then he was saying the reason why he pulled out of the PGA was a screw went through the skin on Saturday or whatever it was,” Day said. “I don’t know how bad it is this time… it just sucks that he’s not here playing.”

For Woods’ part, back in May 2022, when completing his final round at the PGA Championship, Tiger said: “Well, I’m sore. I know that is for a fact.”
