T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach were officially fired from ABC News, the company announced last Friday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The decision comes after the “GMA 3” anchors were taken off the air in early December after reports of their scandalous behind-the-scenes affair became public and the pair became tabloid fodder.
“After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News,” a spokesperson for the network said last Friday evening. “We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions.”
The release of Holmes and Robach comes after ABC News president Kim Godwin temporarily pulled the pair from the air on December 5, followed by an internal investigation.
Holmes was released after being with ABC News since 2014 and had co-anchored GMA3 since 2020. Robach was released after joining ABC News in 2012 and joined GMA3 in 2020.
“Witch hunt”: Contentious mediation before release
According to sources close to ABC, Holmes and Robach went through an extremely contentious and marathon mediation process before reaching an agreement, TMZ reported.
According to one source, representatives for ABC accused both Holmes and Robach of various forms of misconduct, which the source characterized as “a witch hunt.”
Among the accusations were that Amy had liquor in her dressing room, and had come to work drunk on another occasion. The source said ABC executives sent the liquor to other on-air talent as well, so this accusation appeared to be a way of trying to justify getting rid of her.
Holmes and Robach reportedly will receive contract payouts, Page Six reported.

Holmes, 45, and Amy Robach, 49, the pair were seen together on a Los Angeles sidewalk where they were smiling, and embracing with a lot of PDA, Page Six reported. At one point, Robach jumped into Holmes’ arms and straddled him, wrapping her legs around his waist, People reported.
