It’s a sad fact of life that all good things come to an end. And with that, people try to grab a piece of history and hold onto it. With that in mind, there is one more thing to add to the list of strange things sold online: Splash Mountain water.

All the way back in 2020, Disney announced it would be closing down one of its most famous and popular rides “Splash Mountain.” On January 22, 2023, Disney shut down the ride.

However, on the last day, lots of Disney adults and superfans alike crowded into the park to ride Splash Mountain one last time, Kotaku reported. The huge crowds pushed wait times as high as 220 minutes.

But the superfans went one step further, some of them scooped up water on the ride and are now trying to sell “authentic” Splash Mountain water on eBay, with asking prices of $150 for a single jar.

Sellers on eBay are listing various small to larger quantities of “genuine splash Mountain water” with prices ranging from $7.99 to USA Today reported.

A sampling of the listings:

-Disney’s SPLASH MOUNTAIN WATER!!! LAST DAY RUNNING 8oz (1/22/23) | eBay

-A reusable bottle with 10 ounces for $7.99.

-A plastic bag with ‘Splash Mountain water’ written on it in black marker with hand-drawn water droplets added for emphasis, for $25.

-A Mason jar with four ounces of water for $149.95.

There was even a 16.9-ounce bottle listed at $10,100 which had 39 bids.

Why did Disney shut down Splash Mountain and what’s next?

Disney’s Splash Mountain first opened in 1992, based on characters and animated scenes from the 1946 Disney film, Song of the South. However, after controversy arose over the film allegedly characterizing elements in a racist manner, Disney announced plans to replace the ride with the theme from Disney’s 2009 film “The Princess and the Frog,” with the ride becoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in 2024.

Several Change.org petitions in 2020 called for the swap, with Disney saying it had already been working on an overhaul since 2019.
