Jeremy Renner shares first photo since accident as he begins physical therapy

Jeremy Renner shared a photo on his Instagram page as he begins his recovery from a horrific accident involving a 14,000-pound snow plow that broke more than 30 bones, as he was nearly fatally crushed to death.

The 52-year-old actor is seen in his hospital bed as a physical therapist bends his knee to begin loosening up his muscles and preventing atrophy. Renner is seen lying on his back with his arms folded over his chest as the PT assists him with flexion exercises. Bandages can also be seen near his ankle on the medial side of his left foot.

Renner said he remains hopeful his “30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens,” the Daily Mail reported.

Renner was released from the hospital earlier this week. His family said it could take the actor up to two years for his numerous injuries to completely heal.

“I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family,” Renner said. “Much love and appreciation to you all.”

Jeremy Renner accident: What happened?

Renner’s accident occurred on New Year’s Day near his Nevada home while he was trying to clear his car, driven by a family member, from the snow so that his other family members could depart, CNN and NBC reported.

“There was about 3 feet that we just received on top of whatever else they’d received prior to this big snowstorm, but 3 feet of fresh snow,” Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said. The sheriff added that the road Renner was clearing was a private road and one not maintained by the county.

Renner was operating his own plow, a PistenBully that weighs more than 14,000 pounds, trying to extract the car from the snow.

The sheriff said Renner went to speak to a family member when the plow began to roll.

“In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner attempted to get back into the driver’s seat,” Sheriff Balaam said. “It’s at this point that Mr. Renner was run over.”

Renner was airlifted to a nearby hospital and underwent emergency surgery for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries, according to a spokesperson.
