GM has issued four separate recalls affecting some 55,000 trucks and SUVs in 3 brands and 6 model years, on 8 different vehicle models, most with fuel pump failures and a very small number suffering axle separation.
55,000 vehicles recalled by GM
Owners of General Motors (GM) manufactured trucks and SUVs on the Cadillac, Chevy, and GMC lines have or will be receiving notifications of a major recall that affects some 55,000 vehicles.
The recalls affect 8 different vehicle models of the three aforementioned brands over 6 model years, Autoblog reports.
GM has issued four separate recalls over two types of failures: Fuel pumps and – in a rare few vehicles – separating axles through half-shaft failures, Auto 123 reports.
The recalls are divided into two categories: Here’s what you need to know
Category #1: Axle separation
Luckily, the number of units affected is incredibly small and only involves four models. A potential total of 20 vehicles may have left the factory missing the retention rings of the half-shaft assemblies that keep the driveshaft halves in place, which could allow the axles to separate or eject from the transmission.
Only four models of vehicles are affected, all from the same model year:
-The 2023 Cadillac XT5
-2023 GMC Acadia
-2023 Chevy Blazer
-2023 Chevy Traverse.
In all cases, Chevy, Cadillac, and GMC will inspect and replace faulty units free of charge. Notifications are expected to be delivered by March if not delivered already.
Category #2: Fuel pump failure
Four models of vehicles are affected, running from the model years 2017 through 2022
-2022 Chevy Equinox
-2022 GMC Terrain
-2017-2019 Silverado trucks
-2017-2019 Sierra HD trucks.
In all cases, Chevy and GMC will inspect and replace faulty units free of charge. Notifications are expected to be delivered by March.
Recall #1 and issues: 2021-2022 Chevy Equinox and 2022 GMC Terrain
GM says that the fuel pump malfunctions may be the result of a supplier-initiated change that led to fuel pumps shipping with inadequate clearances to allow the necessary flow of fuel. Translation: The fuel pump could stall the engine.
Malfunctioning fuel pumps could trigger a check engine light, or vehicles may experience engine hesitation. Vehicles may not start at all and some cases.
Both Chevy and GMC will replace the units with correctly specified pumps.
Recall #2 and issues: 2017-2019 Silverado and Sierra HD
This affects vehicles sold with the diesel engine and a dual-tank configuration.
Some vehicles may have shipped with a rear fuel pump susceptible to fouling by debris and preventing fuel from transferring to the front take.
These malfunctions could trigger a check engine light, engine hesitation, failure to start, or inaccurate/erratic fuel tank readings.
GMC will inspect and replace faulty units free of charge.
