Best Man Steals Bride From Groom

During the best man’s speech at a wedding, a man passionately declared his love for the bride to the wedding party as he toasted the nuptials to her and his then-best friend. He ultimately stole the bride.

Best man makes last attempt at love for bride with wedding speech

Bryant White was in an awkward position. As best man at the wedding of his then-best friend [who has gone unnamed in reports] and his bride-to-be, Desiree, watched the woman he loved about to slip away. He knew he had to say something before it was too late.

The trio had been friends for years, and the relationship between Bryant and Desiree was strictly platonic, having met in high school when she already had a boyfriend.

Bryant had shown up at Desiree’s parent’s house earlier in the day, LADBible reported.

“He said I looked beautiful,” Desiree recalled. “I’d never had a moment of him looking at me like that.”

“I thought he was being nice because it was my wedding day,” Desiree said. “We went to the wedding, and he was really drunk. I told him he still needed to do his best man’s speech.”

That’s where things got really awkward.

Truth comes out in drunken confession best man’s speech

Alcohol can sometimes loosen inhibitions, even acting as a truth serum. That was certainly the case on this day for Bryant.

“When he went up to do it, he said, ‘I remember the first moment I saw Desiree, I loved her,'” Desiree said, recalling Bryant’s best man speech at her wedding.

“I fell in love with her,” Bryant said. “I knew she had to be mine. I thought she was the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen in my life.”

The bride and groom, as well as their 200 guests, sat there stunned at what they were hearing, the New York Post reported.

“She’s the best person I’ve ever met,” Bryant continued. “I’ve never met anyone like her. Then I found out she already had a boyfriend, and I thought I needed to find out a way to get her, but then I met [ex], and we became friends.'”

“Love you both,” Bryant added. “Congratulations.”

Desiree said her ears turned red listening to the speech. The whole room felt the awkwardness in the air.

“Everyone was kind of laughing,” Desiree recalls, “and then it got quiet.”

After conceding “congratulations” with his best man speech, Bryant wasn’t quite ready to give up on Desiree’s love just yet.

Later that night, when Bryant danced with Desiree, he broached the subject again.

“Why didn’t you ever give me a chance?” Bryant asked her. “I would have always taken care of you.”

Desiree asked him what he meant.

“Nothing,” Bryant replied. “I love you, I love [your ex].”

That seemed to be the end of it – until fate intervened.

Things weren’t working out for Desiree and her new husband a year later. She says the marriage crumbled because her then-husband adopted a “totally different lifestyle.” The couple split. Desiree was now battling depression.

However, Bryant was there to offer a shower of emotional support.

“He’d ask me to eat with him or hang out and watch a show,” Desiree said. “He was trying to be there for me.”

“Bryant and I just kissed one day when we were hanging out,” Desiree recalled. “It was out of nowhere.”

“When he kissed me, I didn’t stop it, then I kissed him back,” she added. “I was shocked that it was a good kiss. It felt good and natural.”

The pair quickly went from friends to lovers. Within a year, she became pregnant, and the couple married.

The couple has since gone on to have four sons.

As to why the pair never got together earlier, White says things were different then.

“Twenty-year-old Desiree wouldn’t think she could be a mom of four kids,” she proclaimed. “She couldn’t imagine this is what my life would be like now.”

“I’ve been on double dates with him [Bryant], and I always tell people I wouldn’t have ever dated the person he was then,” White declared, adding that, at the time, “He had a lot of growing up to do. I didn’t really look at him in that way.”

But now, all that’s changed. The couple says they “love being parents.”
