A woman who is still a long way away from her first gray hair got the shock of a lifetime when she became a grandmother, earning her the status of the youngest grandmother in the nation. You won’t believe her age!
Woman becomes the youngest grandmother in the nation
When we think of grandmothers, most people picture a gray-haired woman. Of course, the status of grandmother is achieved often by women younger than 60 or 50, many times in the decade of their 40s.
But a woman has achieved the status of Britain’s youngest grandmother at the tender age of 30! And of course, when she found out her daughter was pregnant she was only 29.
Even though the story just broke this week, the status came in August 2018, when Kelly Healy became Britain’s youngest grandmother at 30 years of age. Her then-14-year-old daughter Skye Salter gave birth to a baby boy named Bailey, the Sun revealed in an exclusive report.
“I never expected to find out I would become a nan while still in my twenties,” Kelly said.
Kelly’s mother was only 48 at the time of the birth, making her own mom one of Britain’s youngest great-grandmothers.
“No point yelling at my daughter”
Kelly said her daughter had been sexually active, and had been living with her step-mother and father in Cranford, West London. As of caution, they did a digital test in 2018, as a precaution before making an appointment to get a contraceptive implant. However, the test indicated she was pregnant, the Daily Mail reported.
“My periods had always been up and down, so I didn’t think much of it when I missed them,” Skye said.
But Skye adds, that later, “I had a secret feeling I might be pregnant which is why I’d suggested the test.”
They then went to West Middlesex Hospital in Isleworth. Skye had an ultrasound and doctors announced she was already 36 weeks and four days pregnant.
Kelly says when she learned Skye was expecting, she offered “love and support.”
“There was no point in yelling at Skye about contraception and safe sex,” Kelly says. “What was done was done.”
“All I could do was offer love and support,” Kelly added. “As a mum you just deal with these things.”
The father of the child was a local boy around her own age, Skye said.
World’s youngest great-grandmother?
Given Kelly’s early status as a grandmother, in the not-too-distant future, one cannot rule out the possibility this woman will also achieve the status of Britain’s youngest great-grandmother!
