TJ Holmes and Amy Robach unlikely to return to Good Morning America

Sources say TJ Holmes and Amy Robach “have not been terminated” from Good Morning America but say it’s “unlikely” that the pair will return to GMA3, while another source disagrees. Here’s why…

The T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach scandal: How it began

The co-anchors of ABC’s GMA3 (Good Morning America 3), T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, were accused of having an affair after the Daily Mail published photos of the pair in intimate situations, including holding hands and touching one another, in November 2022. After the negative publicity, rumors circulated that the affair between the pair, who were both married to other people, had been going on for months.

Robach and Holmes taken off the air

On December 5, 2022, Robach and Holmes were placed on hiatus from GMA3 amidst the scandal.

ABC network President Kim Godwin announced to staffers that Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes had been taken off the air following the public disclosure of a romantic relationship, according to a person familiar with the matter, CNN reported. Goodwin reportedly called the debacle an “internal and external distraction” on a morning editorial call.

“While that relationship is not a violation of company policy,” Godwin said, “I have really taken the last few days to think about and work through what I think is best for the ABC News organization. And so, for now, I am going to take Amy and TJ off the air, while we figure this out.”

Godwin said that such decisions “are necessary for the brand,” and added that she also asked staff to “stop the whispering in the hallways” about the matter.

Pair splits from their spouses

Both Holmes and Robach have been married to their respective spouses since 2010, and both couples are said to have split up in August 2022. Holmes officially filed for divorce in January, the Daily Mail reported.

TJ Holmes and Amy Robach unlikely to return to GMA3

A source close to TJ Holmes, 45, and Amy Robach, 49, told People that while the co-anchors “have not been terminated” from GMA3, it was questionable, if not unlikely, that the pair would return to their on-air roles.

“There are no negotiations about their future,” the source said. “ABC is completing their investigation.”

“While it is unlikely they will return in the capacity they were in, the longer time goes on, it becomes less likely they will return,” the source continued. “There are still open lines of communication and further discussions are being had about what will happen.”

Another source believes the pair won’t be fired

However, another source told People that they believe the pair will return and that the relationship between the two is “stronger than ever.”

“They’re just going along and doing their thing,” the second source said. “There’s no grounds to fire them on and they believe they won’t be fired.”

“The network is just waiting for things to cool down,” the second source continued. “This happens at companies all the time.”
