Tiger Woods Hospitalized After Car Accident

Tiger Woods has been hospitalized for serious injuries sustained while driving his SUV in Los Angeles. The legendary golfer was driving through a suburb with a number of rolling, sweeping hills when he crashed his SUV Tuesday morning.

While driving to a TV shoot, the golfer seems to have not noticed the median in the road and ran his SUV’s driver side into it. This caused his vehicle to flip over and roll several times, landing on its side at the base of a very steep stretch of road known for its high concentration of accidents. Woods had to be pulled out of the car through the windshield, so bad was the damage to the vehicle.

Tiger Woods Injuries Are “Serious”

Doctors have described Woods’ injuries from the accident as “serious.” Specifically, his right leg was badly injured in the accident. Doctors were said to be “stabilizing” what were categorized as “significant” injuries to the leg with a  combination of pins and screws on Tuesday.

According to Woods’ own foundation, he is awake and alert in the hospital. He has been described as “responsive,” and is not thought to be in critical condition despite the severity of his injuries. According to the doctors treating the pro golfer, he shattered the tibia and fibula bones of his right leg. Additionally, he suffered injuries to other bones in his ankle and foot.

Tuesday afternoon, Woods went into a lengthy surgery to stabilize his wounds with pins and screws. The surgery was also intended to reduce swelling in the injured leg and foot.

Latest Setback for Woods

This crash is the latest in a string of personal setbacks for the storied pro. Woods is undeniably one of the greatest golfers ever, but he’s also suffered a series of injuries and personal setbacks that have kept him in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. So far, however, nothing from sports-related injuries to a high-profile cheating scandal has kept him off the green for long.

And, while fans and friends alike were relieved to hear that Woods would survive his injuries, a new question is on everyone’s mind: can he golf again? Another preeminent name in the golf world, Jon Rahm, stated “As if his body hasn’t endured enough. I just hope he can get out of the hospital after recovery and he can still play with his kids and have a normal life.”

Thankfully, no one else was injured in the accident, and Woods does not seem to have been impaired at the time of the accident.
