This Giant Flying Luxury Hotel Can Stay in the Air for Years

A giant nuclear-powered flying hotel features unparalleled luxury, including a swimming pool and gym, and is aimed at accommodating 5,000 passengers. The hotel could remain airborne for months at a time, even doing in-flight repairs.

A giant flying luxury hotel that rarely lands

The future is now… Sky Cruise, a humongous flying hotel that is also a nuclear-powered airplane is something the world has never seen before.

Imagine the fusion of a cruise ship with an airplane of gargantuan proportion, a sort of flying Titanic, and you can begin to get a vague idea of this phenomenal concept.

The designer of this mammoth aircraft, Hashem Al-Ghaili, unveiled his concept for this flying luxury resort that he claims rarely ever has to land, and he says the craft “could be the future of transport,” the New York Post reported.

The hotel can be seen on video here in a 3-D animation released by the designer.

A luxury resort in the sky

Packed into this flying luxury resort in the sky are things one would find in a cruise ship, such as numerous restaurants, shopping malls, gyms, pools, cinemas, and theaters, the Daily Mail reported.

The aircraft is designed to carry 5000 people. Its designer said people could even hold weddings on its breathtaking 360-degree observation platform, which is situated at the top of the rear vertical stabilizer (tail).

Nuclear-powered, AI-driven

The designer said the plane would be nuclear-powered, alieviating the need to refuel and allowing it to stay in the air for months at a time. It would be fully autonomous, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), and even routine maintenance and some repairs would be carried out in-flight–an aviation first.

Critics slam the concept

Naysayers quickly slammed the concept as the “new Titanic,” making comparisons to other disastrous craft such as the Hindenburg.

Critics point out its many design features, such as the tail fin rotunda, which make the aircraft far from aerodynamic. Due to its massive size alone, many believe it would never get off the ground. They made comparisons to the world’s largest plane, the Spruce Goose, built by Howard Hughes.

Online critics seemed to miss the fact that there is probably not a runway in the world that could accommodate a craft of this size and weight, which would be extremely problematic if the plane were forced to make an emergency landing.

Still, despite the fact that this concept is simply too far out to exist, it’s still pretty fun looking at the animation of what a flying hotel might look like!
