Smart Dog Collar Will Translate Barks into Messages

Ever wonder what’s on your dog’s mind? What if you could understand what your four-legged friend is trying to tell you? A new dog collar proposes to do just that, using AI voice recognition to translate barks and communicate what your pet is feeling.

Smart dog collar will translate dog barks into messages

The wonders of artificial intelligence (AI) voice recognition are going beyond only listening to people. It has now been expanded to recognize a variety of dog barks and can translate canine feelings into human words.

A new smart dog collar has been developed by Petpuls Labs, a South Korean company, and is being billed as “the world’s first dog emotion translator.” In addition, the collar can track how much your dog is barking, as well as activity, calories, and rest.

In developing the collar, the researchers spent three years analyzing and teaching the artificial intelligence program how to differentiate barks using 10,000 barking samples from 50 dog breeds, Unilad reported.

What can the collar tell you about your dog?

The collar, thus far, can analyze a dog’s bark to determine five different emotional states: happy, anxious, angry, sad, or relaxed. This can go a long way in giving dog owners insight into both their dog’s emotional and physical well-being.

The eco-friendly silicone collar pairs with its accompanying iOS or Android app that can communicate via Wi-Fi to your smartphone or smartwatch. Users need to be within fifteen feet of their dog for the wireless communication to work properly.

The collar can be purchased directly from Petpuls online store and currently retails at $129 small/$138 large.

Collar can also track activity, calories, and rest

In addition to translating barks to reveal your dog’s emotions, the collar can also track when your dog is active and how many calories it’s burning or when your pet is at rest.

Activity & calories: The collar’s activity tracker has a built-in accelerometer sensor that can also calculate the number of calories your dog is burning from exercise. This data can be sent back to the Petpuls app. Activity can be tracked and calories burned by the hour, day, week, or month to help you determine if your dog is getting enough exercise.

Rest: Dogs rest for an average of 14 hours per day and bark for less than an hour. The collar can help you monitor and track this activity.

Named as innovative product

Multiple global media outlets have named the product “best of show.” In 2021, when the product was unveiled for the first time at the prestigious  2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), it was honored as a 2021 CES Innovation Award Product Honoree.

The benefits of the smart dog collar

“Many dog owners are unable to be with their dogs all the time,” said Stella Jang, the CEO of Petpuls Labs. “We created Petpuls to give dog owners a holistic view into their dog’s behavior and activity throughout the day.”

“We spend so much time with our dogs and lavish affection on them that we think we know how they really feel,” Jang added. “In reality, we often miss small changes, which can provide substantially more meaning and insight into a dog’s health and well-being when viewed over time.”
