Priscilla Presley Contesting the Validity of Lisa Marie Presley’s Will

Priscilla Presley is challenging the will of her daughter, the late Lisa Marie Presley. She is questioning whether it is valid.

Priscilla Presley has filed a petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court. She is challenging her daughter’s will, questioning the “authenticity and validity” of the document.

Lisa Marie Presley died unexpectedly on January 12th. The singer and only child of Elvis Presley was just 54 at the time. She presumably suffered cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California. The Los Angeles County coroner is still investigating and has not given an official cause of death yet. Lisa Marie was laid to rest at Graceland on January 22nd.

Priscilla Presley Disputing an Amendment Made to Lisa Marie’s Will

In the court filing, attorneys for Priscilla are disputing an amendment made to Lisa Marie’s will in 2016. According to the petition, the amendment removed Priscilla and Lisa Marie’s former business manager, Barry Siegel, as co-trustees. Priscilla and Siegel currently serve as the heads of a trust created to manage the Presley estate.

It was only after Lisa Marie’s death that Priscilla discovered the purported amendment. The amendment removed her and Siegel, replacing them with Lisa Marie’s children Riley and Benjamin Keough. Benjamin Keough tragically passed in 2020. If the amendment stands, this would leave the trust solely in the hands of Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough.

According to Priscilla, this document changing the trust was never delivered to her during her daughter’s lifetime, which is required by the terms of the trust. Failure to notify Priscilla of the change may render the document invalid.

Priscilla has other questions concerning the authenticity of the amendment. Priscilla’s name is misspelled in the document supposedly signed by her daughter, plus Lisa Marie’s signature appears inconsistent with her usual signature. The petition also alleges that the 2016 amendment lacked witnesses and was not notarized.

Priscilla Files to Have Amendment Invalidated

Priscilla filed the petition in an effort to have the amendment nullified.

“Petitioner respectfully requests an order from this court determining that the purported 2016 Amendment is invalid,” the filing reads.

This filing on behalf of Priscilla is likely the first of many legal actions surrounding the estate of the late Lisa Marie, the only heir of Elvis Presley. It is currently unclear how much that estate is worth. Court documents in recent years suggest Lisa Marie’s finances were in trouble, as she was forced to disclose that information amid a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband.
