Man Baffled After Dog Issued Speeding Ticket

A dog owner was left speechless, thinking this “can’t be real,” after he received a speeding ticket in the mail showing his dog behind the wheel and demanding payment of a $54 fine. You won’t believe what happened next!

Guilty: Man’s dog receives a speeding ticket in the mail

A man received a speeding ticket in the mail captured by a camera. According to the evidence, the guilty party was positively identified. The only problem was, that the perpetrator shown in the photograph wasn’t him. It was his dog.

The speeding fine was $54 (€50), LADBible reports.

The man, who hasn’t been named, was speechless. But there it was. The evidence was clear. The photo was his dog, all right.

“My first reaction was: ‘That can’t be real,'” the man said. “I think my uncle was just as surprised.”

Had his dog somehow managed to snatch his keys and go for a drive without his knowledge? Did that mean his beloved pooch and reliable best friend wasn’t so trustworthy after all, but a doggone car thief?

No.

After a moment to process what had occurred, the answer to the mystery began to unravel.

The pooch was behind the wheel

One thing that could not be argued was that the pooch was definitely behind the wheel—but taking a pause to examine the paws, looking closer at the photo, the dog, while in the driver seat, wasn’t the one doing the driving.

The answer to the riddle was a matter of a perfectly-time photo.

The dog had jumped into his owner’s lap right when the traffic camera snapped a photo as they passed through the automated speeding check. From the camera’s vantage point, the dog was blocking the owner’s face, making it appear as if the dog was driving. Even its paws look like they might be touching the center of the steering wheel.

“Normally, the dog wears a special car belt for safety,” the dog’s owner said. “That day, my uncle forgot to put it on him, and the dog came to cuddle [as he was driving].”

“The funny part is,” the owner added. “He was in [my] lap for just three seconds.”

In Germany, where the incident occurs, the driver (not the vehicle owner) pays the ticket. So did they expect the dog to fork up the fine? That’s a lot of dog biscuits.

What is a little baffling is why no one from the office that issued the ticket examined the photo.

Nonetheless, it was a priceless moment captured in a photograph worthy of framing and a story the owner is sure to be telling for years to come.
