Internet Reacts to J. Lo and Ben Affleck Matching Valentine’s Day Tattoos

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have been back in the spotlight this month. Earlier this week, they costarred in a hilarious Super Bowl ad for Dunkin Donuts, in which Ben spent a day working at the famous donut shop. Now, the pair have become a hot topic again thanks to a pair of old-school tattoos they both got on Valentine’s Day.

How long has it been since you saw someone get an infinity sign with writing worked into the design tattooed on their actual body? Well, J. Lo and Ben Affleck have these extremely dated tattoos now, so maybe there will be a resurgence in the design now.

First Valentine’s Day Married

Despite being a popular celebrity couple for years now, Ben and J. Lo only got married very recently. In fact, this is their first Valentine’s Day as husband and wife–an occasion that J. Lo saw fit to commemorate on her Instagram. The post is full of pictures of the couple from across the past twenty years, showcasing their long-lasting commitment to one another.

The post carries the hashtag “commitment is sexy,” and immediately drew reactions from the couple’s large fanbase. Many fixated on a picture of a new tattoo J. Lo sports in one of the pictures, though: a black infinity symbol with the couple’s names written in cursive.

Ben’s Matching Tattoo

Ben also has a new tattoo dedicated to his wife, and, depending on your sensibilities, this is either extremely sweet or extremely cringy. Ben’s tattoo is a pair of arrows crossed over the middle, with the letters “J” and “B” sitting above and below the cross, respectively.

When the post made its way to other social media sites, users quickly clowned the couple for the seemingly childish designs of the tattoos. One asked, in disbelief, “are those real?” Another compared the tattoos to the iconic “super S” symbol often scrawled into grade school notebooks.

A Touching Nod to Their Golden Era?

Other users were quick to point out that it’s somewhat cute that the couple, who themselves are better-known for their A-list status as 2000s movie stars, would get tattoos that would look more at home in a bygone era. Maybe J. Lo and Ben are just so earnest and straightforward in their commitment that the perpetually sarcastic and detached voice of semi-anonymized social media can’t handle a genuinely sweet pair of matching tattoos. Either way, it’s obvious that they’re having another moment–Ben will reprise his role as Batman in the upcoming Flash movie, and J. Lo is preparing to release a brand-new album, This is Me… Now later this year.
