Far More Americans Want BLM Riots Investigated than Capitol Riot

A new poll has shown that far more Americans feel Nancy Pelosi should be focusing on probing the BLM rioting and violence across the country than the January 6 riots at the capitol; plus, more top stories in conservative politics.

Two out of three Americans think investigating BLM riots is more important than probing capitol riot

One-third more Americans, two out of three likely U.S. voters, said they believe Congress should hold investigative hearings about last summer’s “Black Lives Matter protests that sparked violence” than think lawmakers should be probing the riot at the capitol on January 6, according to the latest survey by Rasmussen Reports, the Daily Wire reported.

Majority support investigating BLM rioters across all racial lines

Support for Congress investigating BLM riots and violence as a priority showed a majority in the pool along all racial lines, including 67% of white voters, 64% of black voters, 66% of Hispanic voters and 62% of voters from other minorities.

Majority along all political lines want BLM investigation

Across political lines, 75% of Republican voters, 60% of Democrats and 63% of voters not affiliated with either major party also said Congress should investigate last year’s violent protests.

Other results of the poll

  • 62% of voters believe all politicians who downplayed the riots (such as calling them ‘peaceful protests’) should be criticized.
  • 63% believe protesters who broke the law last summer by looting, rioting, and causing damage should be charged and criminally prosecuted.
  • 68% believe failure to prosecute so-called “quality of life” crimes such as shoplifting will make criminals more likely to re-offend.
  • 76% of likely voters say young people should be taught to obey and cooperate with police officers’ lawful commands instead of fleeing or resisting arrest.

The high cost of the BLM riots to persons and property

ACCORDING TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES, the BLM riots over the summer with the most expensive in US history. It is estimated that insurance companies shelled out somewhere between $1-2 billion, according to Property Claim Services. The real total is likely higher than that, as the estimate only includes the share of insurance companies’ damage.

The human cost of the BLM riots

Hundreds of police officers and civilians were injured, as well as dozens of people killed due to the BLM violence.

The Washington Post reported that at least 27 people died as a result of the riots.

“Approximately 72% of major city law enforcement agencies had officers harmed” during last summer’s riots,” according to the Major Cities Chiefs Association. One police agency reported that 462 of its officers were injured during the protests within its jurisdiction.
