Chaos as US deploys more troops to control Kabul airport

The United States has deployed 6,000 troops to take control of the Kabul airport in Afghanistan in order to evacuate staff from the country. Chaos has ensued as other countries are rushing to evacuate staff and allies, while huge crowds have gathered in an attempt to force their way onto planes.

At least three civilians died in the chaos on Monday. Some people also fell to their deaths trying to cling onto planes as they took off, the BBC reported.

Taliban overruns Bagram Air Base, numerous “high-value” prisoners freed, including senior al Qaeda

On Sunday, the Taliban took full control of Bagram Air Base, formally under US control, and turned over to the Afghanistan government last month, the Daily Wire reported. Reportedly, the Taliban has released thousands of prisoners, including its own hardened fighters and senior al Qaeda operatives, Fox reported.

CBS senior investigative reporter Catherine Herridge, tweeted: “Senior US official tells @cbsnews Bagram has fallen w/prisoners released. NOTE: Historically these prison releases have been catastrophic, strengthening al Qaeda + associated groups + touted in propaganda as major victories.”

Afghan President Ghani flees, US Embassy lowers American flag and relocates

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani boarded a flight over the weekend, fleeing Afghanistan, as Taliban forces entered the capital city of Kabul, Fox reported.

the US Embassy lowered the American flag and moved its operations to the nearby Kabul airport.

Taliban hold press conference from capital

On Sunday, the Taliban took over the capital city of Kabul and held a press conference from its abandoned presidential palace, the Associated Press reported.

According to the AP, a Taliban spokesman and negotiator said the group would hold talks in the coming days aimed at forming an “open, inclusive Islamic government.”

After the United States and NATO spent billions of dollars over nearly 2 decades to build up Afghan security forces, in just over a week, the Taliban has seized nearly all of Afghanistan, including its capital city, Kabul on Sunday, the Daily Mail reported. In a press conference on Sunday, the Taliban said it will soon declare the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
