A law student and mother was inspired to copy an Australian model known as the “Blue-eyed Dragon” and got the whites of her eyes tattooed blue and purple to copy the online influencer, she says she is now going blind.
Mom copies online influencers tattooed eyeballs
Anaya Peterson, a law student and mother of five was wowed by Australian model Amber Luke, whose nickname is the “Blue-eyed Dragon” who got the white (sclera) of her eyes inked blue in 2019.
Despite a warning from her seven-year-old daughter that she could go blind, Anaya, 32, who is from Belfast, decided to copy the social media influencer by getting one eye tattooed blue and the other purple.
Body modification is nothing new for Anaya. She has facial tattoos and piercings, body tattoos, as well as has had her tongue split to give it a fork like a reptile, the New York Post reported.
Hindsight is 20/20: Eye tattooing causing mom to go blind
Anaya posted pictures of herself immediately following the tattooing procedure in which one eye was swollen completely shut and the other nearly shut. But the inflammation did not subside and she had to be hospitalized. Doctors performed the surgery on her eyes and performed a biopsy, the Daily Mail reported.
Two years later, she says she is facing permanent blindness as her vision continues to deteriorate.
Anaya says ophthalmologists have told her she is now at a very high risk of contracting glaucoma. Her eyesight continues to worsen with “hundreds of thousands of floaters” clouding her vision.
As a result, Anaya says she no longer has 20/20 vision and can no longer see features on faces.
“I can’t get these eye tattoos out,” Anaya says. “I’m always going to have this problem.”
“So, I basically think that as I get older, it’s just best to let me go blind,” Anaya declared. “When I’m 60 or 70, I don’t want to have to go to the eye doctor every two or three days.”
Influencer who inspired her also suffered temporary blindness
Influencer Amber Luke, known as the “Blue-eyed Dragon,” the woman who inspired Anaya to tattoo the whites of her eyes, has both of her sclera (the whites) dyed blue, as well as most of her body tattooed, among other body piercings and modifications. Luke also went temporarily blind after tattooing her eyes, according to the New York Post.
Luke says she has spent $250,000 on her body modification. She says she has received a lot of negative comments from people commenting on how she has ruined her looks from what they were before she began her body modification journey in 2017.
