Local News Anchor Arrested After Being Found Naked Behind the Wheel

Normally it’s the news anchors themselves who are reporting on bizarre arrests. In the case of Feven Kiflegiorgis, a Las Vegas news anchor, however, the situation was reversed.

On March 20, the anchor was found behind the wheel of her Audi, naked and smelling of alcohol according to police. She was discovered by authorities at 7:30 in the morning, asleep by herself in a residential neighborhood.

Upon being awakened by authorities, Kiflegiorgis, who goes by the stage name Feven Kay, told police she had no idea how she got there. She reportedly has no memory of undressing or of driving the vehicle to the spot where police found it. She faced charges for driving under the influence, though these were later reduced to reckless driving charges.

Anchor’s Odd Arrest Surprises Community

Feven Kay is a popular anchor on Las Vegas airwaves, where she works for Fox 5 Las Vegas. She’s usually seen as the morning weekday anchor for the station but had been missing from the show for weeks. The anchor has a dedicated Instagram following, as well, with some 15,000 followers who all engage with her posts.

Upon returning to the air, Feven Kay employed candor in explaining to audiences why she had been gone. Calling her arrest a “private matter,” she explained “Many of you noticed I’ve been off-air for a few weeks. To all of you who have reached out, a sincere thank you for your concern.”

“Last month, I was arrested by Metro for driving under the influence,” Kay told viewers. “At the time of the arrest, I was inside of a [parked] vehicle in a Las Vegas neighborhood alone.”

Charges and Sentencing

Kay was charged with reckless driving and was sentenced on April 21 to a $1,000 fine and a mandatory driving school course. The reduction in charges from driving under the influence to reckless driving likely owed to the circumstances of her arrest: she was not driving when police arrested her, no one was with her, and she hadn’t caused any traffic accidents. Notably, Kay refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test, which could have also affected the sentencing.

After explaining the arrest and her sentence, Kay assured viewers that she had learned her lesson. “As I move forward, I want you to know I have learned from this and I will continue learning and I truly thank you for your support,” the anchor told audiences.
