It sounds like a sequel to the movies Fatal Attraction or Play Misty for Me… But a Texas dad and his daughter are now homeless and have lost all their belongings after a woman he dated for a month torched their home.

Tommy Garay, the father of a two-year-old daughter, came home on November 22 to find his house in flames, Yahoo reported.

“I called the fire department but unfortunately by the time they arrived everything I owned including my daughters toys, clothes, shoes, etc was damaged/lost in the fire,” Garay wrote on a GoFundMe page where he is trying to raise funds to get back on his feet and replace necessary belongings. “This is such a devastating time for us, as this home, was the home my dad and I grew up in, this home has been part of my family for generations.”

“I never would have imagined me being a victim of such crimes, as we had only been in a relationship for a month,” Garay wrote. “This is very traumatizing, especially for my daughter, asking why we can’t we go home.”

Ominous clue

Originally unsure about what had caused the fire, Garay got a clue when he received a text from an ex-girlfriend while his house was still in flames that read: “I hope your house is okay.”

Garay told police about the text he received from his girlfriend regarding his house fire.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s office obtained video that showed Senaida Soto, 23, burglarizing and then setting fire to Garay’s home. Video footage showed Soto lighting a couch on fire, which spread throughout the house, resulting in more than $50,000 in damage. Soto was arrested on November 22 on felony charges of burglary and arson.

Why she did it

Sheriff’s investigators learned that Soto had FaceTimed Garay, but another woman answered his phone. She then went to the house and lit the living room couch on fire.

However, it turned out that the woman who answered Garay’s phone was a female relative.

Soto’s charges include burglary, a second-degree felony, and arson, a first-degree felony.
