On Sunday, massive protests erupted in Cuba with citizens calling for an end to the communist dictatorship that have left them hungry, and poverty and with limited freedom, the Daily Wire reported.

Videos and photos online showed one woman shouting “the people are dying of hunger!” Another proclaimed, “Our children are dying of hunger!”

Cuban-Americans show support in US: There’s no food, no medicine

As massive protests were occurring in Cuba on Sunday, across America, Cuban-Americans showed solidarity by taking to the streets, shouting such slogans as: “We want freedom” and “we are no longer afraid,” NBC reported.

Cuba is facing its worst economic crisis since the fall of the Soviet Union.

A Miami resident told NBC station WTVJ that his relatives in Cuba are struggling. “There’s no food, there’s no medicine,” the man said.

Cuban president blames Americans

President Miguel Díaz-Canel blamed Americans.

“As if pandemic outbreaks had not existed all over the world, the Cuban-American mafia, paying very well on social networks to influencers and Youtubers, has created a whole campaign,” Diaz-Canel told reporters, adding that this [Cuban-American mafia] “has called for demonstrations across the country.”

Cuba shuts down Internet, false narratives from mainstream US media

As the protests grew on Sunday, Cuban authorities shut down Internet service throughout the afternoon, Politico reported.

Some mainstream media outlets in the US attempted to portray the narrative of the protest as being related to the pandemic and shortages of vaccines. Cuban-Americans, in contact with relatives living in the island nation, quickly countered such claims, saying shortages of food and basic goods, as well as blackouts, were at the heart of the matter.

The list of woes in the country goes on and on, one resident said, according to a report by Reuters.

At least one video on social media showed protesters in Cuban carrying and waving an American flag while shouting for freedom, the Blaze and the Daily Wire reported.

America’s far-left silent on Cuban protests

Two of America’s most Far Left politicians, those who have referred to themselves as democratic socialists, were silent on Sunday as Cubans protests for freedom and an end to the communist dictatorship.

The Daily Wire reported that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) were silent on the matter. According to the Wire, Sanders visited and met with former dictator Fidel Castro in 1989. Sanders allegedly said he was excited to see Castro “rising up against the ugly rich people.”

DeSantis, Rubio, Republicans voice support

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tweeted on Sunday: Florida supports the people of Cuba as they take to the streets against the tyrannical regime in Havana. The Cuban dictatorship has repressed the people of Cuba for decades & is now trying to silence those who have the courage to speak out against its disastrous policies.”

House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) also tweeted his solidarity and posted a video of Cubans walking through the streets of a neighborhood in the island nation.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted: “I am asking @POTUS @SecBlinken to call on members of the Cuban military to not fire on their own people. The incompetent communist party of #Cuba cannot feed or protect the people from the virus. Now those in the military must defend the people, not the communist party.”

A number of other prominent Republicans offered their support including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), and Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL).

The Republican mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, tweeted: “The Cuban regime’s military police are shooting at unarmed Cuban protestors fighting for freedom. 60 years of communism, cruelty, & oppression cannot last any longer! We are imploring the USA to take action as we peacefully demonstrate on the streets of Miami.”
