Rapper Coolio died on September 28, found dead at a friend’s house in Los Angeles, and now, six months later, the LA County medical examiner/coroner’s office has released its report finally revealing his cause of death.

Rapper Coolio found dead

On September 28, 2022, the talent manager for Coolio announced that the 59-year-old rapper had died.

“We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away Wednesday afternoon,” Finegan told TMZ. “He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly. Please have Coolio’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

Coolio, who achieved enormous success in the 1990s, was best well-known for the song “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which was featured in the film Dangerous Minds, which starred Michelle Pfeiffer.

Paramedics were summoned to a house in Los Angeles around 4 PM for a medical emergency. When they arrived, they found rapper Coolio, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, TMZ reported.

Paramedics suspected that Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr., suffered a cardiac arrest, sources told TMZ at the time.

Law enforcement said that no drugs or paraphernalia were found at the scene, and they were opening a death investigation, but added that as of that moment, there did not appear to be any signs of foul play. An autopsy and toxicology test would be used to determine an official cause of death.

Officials finally reveal Coolio’s cause of death

Six months after the passing of Coolio, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner has finally announced the results of its autopsy and toxicology report for the 59-year-old hip pop star, who passed away on September 28, 2022.

According to the coroner’s report, which was viewed by People, it listed that Artis Leon Ivey Jr., (Coolio’s real name), died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine.

In addition, the coroner’s report also listed cardiomyopathy unspecified, asthma, and recent phencyclidine use as other significant conditions contributing to his death.

Cardiomyopathy is a condition affecting the heart muscle, which can prevent it from pumping blood efficiently to the rest of the body, according to the Cleveland Clinic. People who suffer from cardiomyopathy may experience fatigue, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations. It is a progressive disease that worsens over time, but treatment can slow its progress and improve quality of life.
